Wing And Son Piano Serial Number

1903 Wing & Son Upright Five Pedal 'Concert Grand Style 26' Piano Original mahogany siding & ivory keys, Serial no. Canton Becker.

I am looking to sell quickly and wondered what a good price to ask is? Details: Expression, Mandolin and Forte pedals. To my knowledge never restored however may be possible before my ownership. All keys have been replaced with 'modern' non ivory & ebony. Exterior and interior look surprisingly to me very good.

Finish does have a few small faded areas, none the less to the eye is still beautiful. A professional tuner recently 'pre - tuned' it, as he put it and his overall assessment, meaning sound, quality of condition etc. Was rated Good on a scale of 'Fair' - 'Good' - 'Great' - and 'Excellent', mentioning for discerning owners he would recommend pad replacements and much more fine tuning.

The front left ornate foot is loose and the middle pedals seem to stick or slip to and from each other. All other mechanical aspects are in excellent operational condition. I was considering a top price of $600.00 Am I in the ballpark? I'm not looking to make a bundle, just wondering what an ideal price to ask for it might be as I've described it and by what the photos can tell you if much at all. Thank you very much for your time and consideration to answer my question. I can't imagine what 'pre tunings' is? This piano will not hold tune at A=440, standard pitch and even if it did, it would not hold.

I don't know what he means when he says, 'it will need much more fine tuning'. What that means is the pin block is worn out and it will won't hold tune. This is silly. You should have had him test the tuning pin tension. If tuning pins test less than about 35 inch lbs., torque, left twist with the torque meter, it will not hold and there fore the value of the piano is 0.

Yes, you could ask $600, but who would want to buy a piano that will not tune? Another comment, 'discerning owner he would recommend pad replacements'.which means what? Pads?the piano will need new hammers, new damper felts and new key bushings, not to mention restring and re-pin, action regulation and the whole ball of wax! THEN, it will have value.

In my opinion you really don't have a technical condition inspection.only some comments but nothing I could determine as objective information.only subjective and not precise in any case. We restored a Wing & sons about a year ago. The factory cost was $9000. Sale price was $16,000. Your model has 'potential' value via restoration but will never achieve a high value. Anything less than restoration will just be fiddling around with tuners doing this and that.

The restoration of the pedal features requires a lot of work to get that back in top condition. You can mention the potential value, but it will require restoration. Good luck If I had it we would ship to the factory and have a wonderful instrument valued somewhere about $15k+.
